My
Eagle, Idaho
"Older, you moron!
Why did it take you so long to discover and move us to America's finest city?"*
Eagle, Idaho is
awesome!
The community is unparalleled. The
local businesses are great. But it is the families,
people...the
tremendous number of
caring parents meeting the challenge of raising their wonderful children that make Eagle the
special place that it is.
The
purpose of this Web site is to share with you my thoughts after living,
working and investing in Eagle since June, 2004 - the (mostly) good,
the (little) bad and the (tiny) ugly. I pull no
punches and I name names.
On my "sister" Web
page, Older Wisdom, when I finally bring it
up to date, will hold the
cumulative wisdom (such as it is) of my 63 years on this planet;
things I have learned and am qualified to comment on, including, but not
limited to, politics (mostly), sex (not too much) and religion (some) .
However, the big issues we now face are
(1) Terrorism and the proliferation of WMD (weapons of mass destruction
- principally nuclear,
biological and chemical), (2) It's the economy,
stupid. How can we do anything good if we have to constantly worry about
our jobs and/or our retirement?
(3) Internal disruption coupled with border (in)security, and
(4) Quality, affordable health care (and the effect of our growing
(no pun intended) obesity epidemic on future health policy). But it's local,
kitchen table issues that
our families face that concern most of us: quality of life, the challenge of
proper parenting, our children's education,
crime, money management, retirement and what the future holds.
But, it's my passion, our
children, that I care most about. Nothing, I repeat, nothing, is more
important than our children. Parenting is the greatest challenge facing society.
Loving, caring, nurturing families are the the key to our future.
This Web site
is "alive" and often updated (TIP: Hit your browser's "Refresh"
button
often. See the "Last Updated;" date on the News tab,
up on the
right). Some of you browsing this Web site are undoubtedly thinking, "Hey, Older; you're
fat, old, ugly and stupid. Why should I, or anyone else, give a hoot
about what you have to say about Eagle, or anything else for that matter...?" Good question. I hope that
after reading what I have learned about Eagle, Idaho, as well as what I have
learned about life and living, published on the OlderWisdom page (hopefully with an open mind), that you are
inspired to share your own ideas and thoughts with others. Please
remember that the reason this Web site, as well as my OlderWisdom page, are replete with "I," "me," "my," and
other first person references, is that they are my Web sites espousing my personal
views. Believe me, it is not conceit. Let's go,
shall we? Oh, wait...by the way, only the likelihood of protracted
litigation (but not the cost), and/or credible threats of
harm to the people I love, will cause me
to delete anything that is true.
Eagle, Idaho
More than any
other individuals, it was Denise, at Idaho Banking Company, and Leann, at
the Brookwood residential community that, by their actions, convinced me that Eagle, Idaho was
the place for me and my business interests. These two girls,
er, ladies, er, women, are two of
Eagle's greatest ambassadors. To read My Eagle Story, and see my
comments on many of our outstanding businesses, just click on the tab on the
Navigation bar (upper left).

OlderWisdom
or, sixty-three+ years of my cumulative thoughts, covers...
Among the many, so-called truths that I have
learned are, in fact, true are:
"Only the dead have seen the end of war;"
"The only stupid question is the one that is not asked;"
"The more you know, the more you know you don't know;"
"You can't go broke taking a profit (usually);
"Prunes are the magical fruit."
And the most meaningful to me, and to all of us, should be a paraphrase of
James Carville's 1992 Clinton campaign battle cry ("it's the economy,
stupid!") :
"It's the family, stupid!"
I am convinced that the best is yet to
come; that our children will learn from the past and not repeat our worst
mistakes. Those unimaginable advances in science and technology and education will allow future
generations to succeed beyond our wildest dreams.
OlderWisdom subject matter
includes . . . :
My personal heroes;
America's heroes: the men and women serving, and who have served, in our Armed Forces;
Real Americans: ordinary citizens who work hard, play by the rules and raise their families
to do the same;
Politics:
Political correctness,
Politicians,
Leaders, past and present,
including
our best and worst presidents,
Government and bureaucrats,
Our environment (including alternative / sustainable / renewable energy--think
the 4-letter word: C-O-A-L...a 2,000-year domestic supply of clean coal. Click
here for great information),
Globalization and "free" trade,
Immigration
and illegal aliens,
Mexico, Europe, China,
The I'm a victim - it's not my fault . . . crowd,
Revisionism (changing history to fit some special interest's
agenda),
Taxation;
Economics 101;
Humor;
Computers (why are they still so user-unfriendly...?);
The Internet (Got Google? - information overload, finding stuff, spam, spoof, ID theft, etc.);
Law and lawyers - especially trial lawyers (yes!);
Religion (fanaticism, values, "in the name of," etc. Plus my
admiration of the family-centered members of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints - the Mormons );
Small business, big corporations, labor unions;
Education (successes, failures (e.g., outcome-based, Ebonics) and the future);
Crime, criminals, drugs, sentencing;
Poverty (including inter-generational poverty, and so-called
burger-flipping jobs);
Military and war (including Vietnam and World War III);
Homeland security (yeah, right);
Firearms, guns and the Second Amendment (our right to keep and bear arms);
Health and medical care (including fat people like me, er, excuse me, the
gravitationally-challenged, or currently, the obese);
Animal cruelty (including livestock);
Aviation and flying;
Water;
...and more.
